Roll Out Plan

ESTABLISHMENT

Roll-Out of the BMA

 Two-phased BMA establishment process:

Transition Phase (January 2015 – December 2016): Key priorities will include formalised multi-party agreements, which will be aimed at strengthening the BCOCC’s management authority, the commencement of the BMA legislative drafting process and its enactment, and a process to align national risk targeting processes between stakeholders in the border environment. BMA pilots sites should also be rolled out. Operation Pyramid will be implemented, which focuses on better coordinating government’s initiatives in the borderline environment. This operation will expand the role of the BCOCC to the borderline.
Agency Phase (January 2017 and beyond): This will entail the implementation of legislation to operationalise the BMA as a ‘multi parent’ Public Entity within the Ports of Entry environment initially and then provide for the expansion of the mandate and functions of the established BMA to include the air, land (Border Guard) and maritime (Coast Guard) border environment.
